CUT A CD & MUSIC VIDEO
This is the system we use in some of our clubs like Jazz & Rock Band and Glee Club etc. We developed the system to fast track music learning for young beginner musicians. It has been used in over 50 NSW public and private schools and also at the Maroubra Music School.
First we learn a song, then we record the song with audio editing equipment, then we turn the song into a film clip. Students get a complete music basics course through our colourful engaging animated learning system called Rockumations, a step by step 'how to' designed to teach musical principles and sections quickly. Students will learn their instruments and then play and/or sing sections of a song. They then get to really evaluate their work when they record & mix their material to CD and in doing so also learn audio editing. They then turn their audio recording into a music video film clip or animation. The final product of a music video film clip is naturally then something that will in many cases inspire the musicians involved to continue learning and playing music.
Students will learn digital audio, recording cues and protocol, microphones & audio & recording equipment, green screen chroma keying, cameras, special effects, lighting, computers, audio & video editing, story boarding, acting and direction. Of course some students may be more interested in performing, or playing the music, or the technical aspects, so they can specialise in any of these areas.
Being a system we use in NSW schools there are many overlaps with the NSW school curriculum, naturally from music, but also from all the arts sectors (drama, dance and visual arts), and also from maths, English and science & technology. This is a very comprehensive cross curriculum opportunity for students and also produces very tangible results in the form of the audio and video recordings which students genuinely value, and which can also be given to friends or relatives for a wider appraisal that tends to enhance a student's self approval.
LIVE ON AIR ON CHANNEL 9
We used our system to teach Camdenville Public School where all the musicians were beginners, but within one year of using the system they were good enough to walk into Channel Nine studios and record live on the Kerri-Anne Kennerley Show. As well as becoming great musicians and accomplished performers, the students had already shot several music video clips and had been learning around professional digital equipment, so kids as young as five found the multi million dollar TCN studios no trouble at all.
PROJECTS BY STUDENTS
Students storyboarded, edited, acted, danced, played and sang in these videos. These creative projects are not meant to be glossy, professional music videos, they are the work of imaginative and talented young people when you let them loose on instruments and hi tech equipment in an environment of inspiration and fun.
